Downpatrick FC 7 v Lurgan Town 2

Downpatrick opened the scoring when a lovely run by Peter Carberry down the right side of the pitch allowed him to go past 3 men before cutting in and hitting a shot from a tight angle past the Lurgan Town keeper. Minutes later John Mahoney doubled Downpatrick’s advantage when he tapped the ball into the net at the back post

Straight from the kick Lurgan Town were awarded a penalty when Downpatrick’s Eoin Dowd was judged to have fouled the Lurgan striker who made no mistake from the spot kick. A great ball over the top from Mahoney was controlled by Carberry with a great finish to make it 3 – 1. The same two players combined for Downpatrick’s fourth, Carberry made another again great run and pass to Mahoney who beats the defender for a lovely finish. Just before half time Downpatrick lost concentration and failed to clear the ball which allowed the Lurgan striker to score and make it 4 – 2.

In the second half both Peter Carberry and John Mahoney completed their hat-tricks, some great build up play and one touch football in the middle of the park helped Carberry who made no mistake with a great finish. Mahoney then got on the end of a great pass and slid the ball past the helpless Lurgan Town keeper. Joshua Prendergast then completed the scoring with a volley from just inside the box and made it 7 – 2.
