Friday 9th September – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 19’s

Downpatrick FC 1 v Ballinamallard FC 2

Downpatrick played their first Friday night game under lights in this league when they played Ballinamallard at Cheyney Park in Banbridge. In the opening ten minutes Ballinamallard caught the Downpatrick boys on the hop and scored two quick goals.

Downpatrick began to settle down after this initial period and started to get a foot hold on the game and put the Ballinamallard team under some pressure. On the half hour mark Downpatrick pulled a goal back, Conor Logue played a long ball into striker Ryan McCoubrey but the defender got in front of the Downpatrick man and diverted the ball past his own keeper.

In the second have Downpatrick both teams had spell of domination as the game ebbed and flowed but neither team could manage to score the all important goal which would have either sealed all three points for Ballinamallard or secured a draw for Downpatrick.

The Downpatrick management can take heart from this result, apart from the opening ten minute spell their lads were well in the game, causing Ballinamallard some problems and with some players to return to the squad they are in good position.
