Downpatrick FC 3 v Newcastle FC 3
Downpatrick under 13’s opened up their league campaign with an entertaining three all draw with Newcastle. The players are to be credited with how they played, for near enough all of them this was their first taste competitive football.
Both teams took some time before settling down with the play congested in the middle of the pitch. Midway through the first half Newcastle with a superb individual goal, the Newcastle player ran the whole way down the left hand side of the pitch before cutting in and sliding the ball past the keeper. opened the scoring after the Downpatrick defence failed to clear the ball and their striker ran through to poke the ball into the back of the net. At the start of the second half Downpatrick scored two goals in as many minutes through TJ Hill and Corey Kempster.
To their credit Newcastle came storming back and equalised almost immediately after another goal mouth scramble wasn’t cleared. With ten minutes remaining went back in front when the Downpatrick defence failed to clear the ball and their striker ran through to poke the ball into the back of the net. Downpatrick equalised when Conor Perry hit a cross come shot which sailed high into the net giving the young Newcastle keeper no chance.
