Saturday 5th February – Lisburn Junior Invitational Cup Quarter-Final
Downpatrick FC 3 v North End 1
North End started the game positively and within five minutes got themselves in front with a fine finish at the near post. This goal woke Downpatrick up and they started to get the ball down and play some good passing football. Just before half time they got back on level terms, a free kick taken By John Mahoney wasn’t held by the North End keeper and Peter Carberry was left with the simplest tasks of tapping the ball into the empty net.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v North End 1
Downpatrick started the second half full of confidence with Lewis Green, Karl Kearney and Nathan McAllister having great games and dictating the play. They got their second goal ten minutes into the half. A cross into box from Green was cleared straight to captain Cathal Kinsella who made no mistake putting ball into roof of net. Minutes later Downpatrick scored their third which was a carbon copy of the second goal, another cross from Green was only partially cleared to Ruairi Cunliffe who controlled the ball and sent a rasping shot into the back of the net to seal his side’s passage into the cup semi-final.
