Saturday 24th October – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 15’s

Downpatrick FC 2 v Lisburn Distillery 2

Downpatrick were missing a number of regulars due to other commitments but they were able to call upon the services of two under 14’s that were more than capable of playing at this age group. Downpatrick started slowly and within 5 minutes were a goal down due to some indecision in the defence.

Young Tom Savage came on for Oistin Devlin after 10 minutes due to injury and he made an immediate impact giving Downpatrick more energy in midfield. Savage linked up with left back Adam Jervis and sent him through on goal, for Jervis to level the game with a calm finish.

Downpatrick grew in confidence, playing some neat football with Kian Tierney and Savage pulling the strings they were creating chances. Downpatrick’s second goal was scored by Tierney, he collected the ball outside the box before beating two men and rifling his shot into the Distillery net.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 2 v Lisburn Distillery 1

Downpatrick started the second half in total control of the game, but they failed to convert chances. Thomas Fitzsimons, Caolain Logue, Kyle McKeever and Jervis were providing the midfield of Declan Looney, Tierney, Savage and Ryan Cassidy with plenty of ball. Strikers Niall Strange and Rory Trainor were unlucky on a number of occasions, with the Distillery keeper thwarting them. Downpatrick were made to pay for giving away a soft free kick on the edge of their box, when it was whipped in and cleared, the Distillery striker scuffed his shot sending Shane Campbell in the Downpatrick nets the wrong way to equalise. Downpatrick pressed for the winner in the final ten minutes but to no avail.
