Downpatrick started the game by keeping possession and dictating the play, with Declan Looney and Eoin Rooney linking up really well they created a few early half chances but the Hillsborough keeper was on hand to snuff out any danger. 

The breakthrough came after twenty minutes when Brandon Boyd won the ball in the middle of the park he hit a defence splitting pass for Rooney, who surged past his marker, he then had a one on one with the keeper and showed the keeper the wrong way as he fainted to go left, then went right and slid the ball into the bottom corner of the Hillsborough net. Downpatrick conceded a corner late on in the first half, and were punished for slack marking at the back post when an unmarked Hillsboorough player headed the ball into the Downpatrick net to send his team in level at halftime.

The second half went much the same as the first with Downpatrick having all the play and should’ve been ahead by two or three goals. It was Rooney who turned provider this time linking up with Looney who chipped the keeper from the edge of the box to make it 2 – 1.

With Downpatrick cruising the points looked in the bag, but with ten minutes to go Hillsborough won a corner and scored from it to level the match. Almost immediately after Hillsborough won a soft penalty, which they scored to go in front for the first time in the game. As Downpatrick pressed for an equaliser they got caught with a counterattack and the Hillsborough striker found the back of the net to make it 2-4.
