Saturday 19th November – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 16’s

Downpatrick FC 1 v Hillsborough Boys 5

Downpatrick went into this game on Saturday full of confidence having had some good results lately but by the end of the game that confidence was well and truly shattered. In the first half Downpatrick created plenty of chances and were in control of the game but couldn’t convert those chances into goals. Hillsborough broke and hit a deep cross which caught Downpatrick out and the Hillsborough forward hit a half volley into the back of the net. Declan Looney was an early substitute and had an immediate impact as he headed in Caolain Logue’s cross to level the game, just before halftime.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v Hillsborough Boys 1

At the start of the second half Downpatrick had all the play but sloppy defending cost them early as the conceded 2 goals in quick succession to make it 3 – 1 to Hillsborough. Downpatrick were now chasing the game and stills created a lot of chances but failed to convert any and were guilty of making the wrong decisions on to many occasions with many of the players more concerned about their own individual glory rather than the team’s success. As Downpatrick pressed they got caught again and conceded another two goals before the game was over to allow Hillsborough Boys to win 5 – 1.
