Downpatrick FC 5 v Camlough Rovers 1
After the last few disappointing results in the cups Dowpatrick were looking to get back to winning ways in the league when they took on Camlough Rovers on Saturday morning. Decky Looney released Tom Smyth with a ball over the top and Smyth used his speed and strength get to the ball before the Rovers defender and fire a shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Looney was again involved in a Downpatrick goal when he linked up with Kian Tierney who laid the ball out to Corey McCoubrey who drilled his shot into the far corner, giving the Camlough keeper no chance.
Connor Rogan was introduced at halftime and had an immediate impact as his tricked his way into the box and finished at the near post before the keeper could even react. Downpatrick scored their fourth shortly after and this goal was all about McCoubrey as he picked the ball up on halfway he evaded four challenges and rifled a shot into the far top corner
Camlough scored a consolation goal with five minutes remaining, Downpatrick failed to clear the ball, the Camlough striker nicked the ball of the boot of Niall Strange and rifling his shot into the top corner. Downpatrick’s fifth was set up by star performer Rogan who was on fire, he jinked into the box beating two defenders and with the goal at his mercy he unselfishly passed to Reece McCormick who was free at the far post to tap the ball into the net to score his first goal for the club and make it 5 – 1.
