Saturday 11th April – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 16’s
Downpatrick FC 3 v North End FC 1
With a few players missing Downpatrick took time getting into the game and it cost them on 20 minutes, the North End striker skipped past the ‘Green’s’ defence to fire past the helpless Fintan Canavan in the Downpatrick nets. Downpatrick upped the tempo and levelled with a great run down the right from Ben Curran who passed to Callum Shields inside the box, his shot was blocked but the ball fell for strike partner Nathan McShane to fire home.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v North End 1
Buoyed by their goal before half time Downpatrick started brightest in the second half with shots from Rory Anderson and John Patterson, then with 10 minutes gone a great through ball from right back John Hill found McShane in space and he confidently dispatched the ball to the net to double his and the teams score.
It was all one way traffic now with chances falling to Andrew McCoubrey, Ben Curran and Callum Shields but they were all of target with their efforts. In the final 10 minutes Ben Curran wrapped the game up with a powerful run through the North End defence and he rifled home from inside the box. Next up is the Semi-Final of the cup on Wednesday night, with the same commitment and desire Downpatrick should not be far away from reaching another final this season
