Saturday 10th September – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 16’s
Downpatrick FC 3 v Lisburn Distillery 3
Downpatrick were looking to bounce back from last weeks defeat and for much of the game this looked to be happening but a few lapses of concentration near the end allowed Lisburn Distillery back into the game. Downpatrick’s first goal was scored by Ruairi Quinn, the speedy winger slipped inside the last defender and finished into the bottom left corner with a superb shot.
Ten minutes later Downpatrick doubled their advantage, Caolain Logue picked up the ball in middle of the park and showed superb vision and accuracy by lobbing the keeper from 30 yards. Downpatrick scored a third goal on the half hour mark, Declan Looney fired home after an inch perfect cross from Kian Tierney. Downpatrick allowed Distillery to pull a goal back just before half time when they failed to mark at a corner allowing the Distillery player to score.
In the second half the Downpatrick went out with the wrong attitude thinking the game was over and got caught with 2 late goals after some indecision in the back line. Man of the match for Downpatrick was Connor Rogan, he moved the ball well and was always looking forward and provided good width down the right wing.
