Saturday 7th November – Lisburn Invitational Junior League Shield ¼’s under 15’s
Downpatrick FC 2 v Ballyclare Colts 5
Having lost in last years final at Christmas Downpatrick’s hopes of going one better this year were dashed at the quarter-final stage. Downpatrick started the game well, they were creating chance after chances but with the Ballyclare keeper in fine form they struggled to make a breakthrough until Kian Tierney linked up with Eoin Rooney, who played the ball back to Tierney to rifle a shot into the bottom corner of the net. The rest of the half followed the same pattern with Downpatrick having all the play but couldn’t add to the score line.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v Ballyclare Colts 0
Ballyclare came out on the front foot and caught the Downpatrick defence napping with a high ball and their striker levelled the game with a fine finish in the opening minutes of the half. This had Downpatrick rattled and within minutes they were caught again as they struggled to clear another attack as Ballyclare punished them again and took the lead.
Downpatrick started to press from the restart and within minutes Corey McCoubrey drove down the right wing and crossed for Rauiri Quinn to finish at the front post to bring the sides level again. Again Downpatrick fell asleep, Ballyclare attacked down the left and with the Downpatrick defence out numbered they were punished with a clinical finish from the Ballyclare forward. Ballyclare won a corner and scored their forth of the game. With the game gone Downpatrick still pressed but were again caught with a swift counterattack and the Ballyclare striker scored to make it 5 – 2 to them.
