Downpatrick FC 1 v Lurgan Celtic 3
Downpatrick started the game nervously and were guilty of rushing their passes, this resulted in them losing possession time and time again, and this in turn gave Lurgan confidence as they pressed for the opener. After 20 minutes the Downpatrick defence failed to deal with a ball played to the edge of the box, a poor clearance by one of the Downpatrick defenders fell to the Lurgan striker who slotted the ball past keeper Shane Campbell to give his side the lead. This lifted Downpatrick as they tried to get into the game but they couldn’t break down a stubborn Lurgan defence before the break.

Downpatrick began the half pressing well and created a few chances with Declan Looney and Eoin Rooney coming close in the opening moments. The Downpatrick defence failed to deal with another long ball which resulted in Kyle McKeever making a last ditch tackle and giving away a penalty, which keeper Campbell saved but the Lurgan striker was quicker and followed in to put the ball into the Downpatrick net.
Downpatrick responded almost immediately as Tom Smyth scored a free kick from 30yards out. But injuries to Brandon Boyd and Eoin Rooney halted any chance of a comeback as Downpatrick pressed they got caught by a swift counterattack and the Lurgan striker put his side further ahead and into the next round. 1-3
