Downpatrick dominated the game in the first half moving the ball really well and creating chances but we’re unable to convert. Lurgan were awarded a penalty just before half time but Downpatrick goal keeper Jac Zych saved well down to his right to keep the game scoreless at half time.
Early in the second half Downpatrick made the breakthrough, Decky Looney opened the scoring when he converted a right wing cross from Corey McCoubrey. Minutes later Downpatrick doubled their advantage, again with Downpatrick playing very quick passing game Lurgan we’re chasing shadows when Ruairi Quinn picked the ball up on the edge of the box and jinked between 2 defenders to slot the ball home.
Looney linked with Downpatrick’s man of the match Kian Tierney down the left wing, Tierney then slid a perfect pass into Looney for him to beat the keeper at his near post. Quinn completed the scoring and secured all three points after he tapped home a rebound from a shot from Corey McCoubrey.
