Saturday 17th December – Lisburn Junior Invitational League under 13’s
Downpatrick FC 3 v TW Braga 1
Downpatrick warmed up for their Shield Cup Final with a hard fought victory over TW Braga on a cold and frosty Saturday morning. Both teams took a while to get use to the conditions but after ten minutes Downpatrick drew the first blow, a good run by Lewis Green saw him beat a few players down the wing before delivering a great cross from the left for Ruairi Cunliffe to tap in at back post.
Braga got back on level terms when they were awarded a penalty after a tackle by Shea Stratton. In the second half Downpatrick were a different team, getting the ball down and playing some one & two touch football. It wasn’t long before they got back in front, a good ball from the right by Stratton was met by Green who diverted the ball into the back of the net. Downpatrick could have doubled their lead but were thwarted by the Braga keeper who made 4 or 5 good saves. Another great run and ball from Lewis Green tap allowed Cunliffe to score his second of the game to make it 3 – 1.
