Saturday 25th February – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 16’s
Downpatrick FC 1 v Lurgan Celtic 1
This was a midfield battle from the first whistle, Adam Jervis was outstanding winning every ball and breaking up the Lurgan attacks before they threatened the Downpatrick defence. There were few chances in the first half but keeper Niall Strange pulled off an amazing double save from the Lurgan striker that looked a sure goal.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 0 v Lurgan Celtic 0
Ruairi Quinn pressed right from the start, he found Kian Tierney out on the left wing. Tierney showed quality and calmness as he skipped past two defenders and slotted the ball into the far corner of the net to make it one nil. Lurgan pushed for an equaliser but the Downpatrick defence held strong, until the last minute when a soft free kick was conceded halfway into the Downpatrick half, the ball was launched into the box and following a scramble the ball ended in the back of the Downpatrick net. Star performers for Downpatrick Adam Jervis and Thomas Fitzsimmons
