Saturday 25th March – Lisburn Junior Invitational League under 16’s
Downpatrick FC 3 v Banbridge Town 2
In the opening 10 minutes both teams were very cagey and not many chances being created. Then Downpatricks midfield 3 of Adam Jervis, Kian Tierney and Ruairi Quinn started to take control of the game.
It was Tierney’s work rate that created the first goal, as he won the ball in front of his defence and drove up the pitch, he then threaded a pass into Shane Campbell who laid the ball of to Decky Looney who returned the pass to Campbell and he finished in the bottom left corner. Minutes later Kyle McKeever jinked his way into the Banbridge box and was taken out and won a penalty for his side which Adam Jervis fired home with a lot of confidence.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 2 v Banbridge Town 0
The introduction of Connor Rogan on the right wing had an immediate impact as his trickery caused the Banbridge left back so many problems, it was only a matter of time until he scored, which he did as he danced his way through three tackles to slot the ball into the back of the net. After a raft of changes Downpatrick conceded two soft goals in the final ten minutes which caused some concern but the players held on for the three points.
