Sunday 23rd November – Downpatrick Youth League under 13’s
RossglassCounty 0 v Downpatrick FC 2
Downpatrick made the short journey out to Killough to play RossglassCounty in an entertaining game, played in near perfect conditions. Downpatrick started off in positive fashion with Tom Savage and Ethan Breen controlling the midfield.
Downpatrick went one nil ahead ten minutes into the half, Kieran Glennon and Jack Fitzsimons exchanged passes in the midfield before passing to winger Dylan Wallace, he cut in from the left wing before chipping the keeper with a delightful right foot shot.
Downpatrick didn’t have to wait long before doubling their lead, the ball was played down the right wing for Malachy McGrady to cross into the box were striker Liam Toner was waiting, he controlled the ball before shooting from the edge of the box into the net.
Half Time: RossglassCounty 0 v Downpatrick FC 2
The second half was a much more even affair, with Rossglass enjoying a lot more possession and putting the Downpatrick defence under more pressure. The back five of keeper Dylan Connolly, Andrew McGrattan, Colin Jones, Gregory Kelly and Conail Gardiner stood firm and dealt with all that was thrown at them.
Chances were very limited in the second half with Fitzsimons and Breen unlucky to see their efforts well saved. This was a much improved performance from the ‘Greens’ with particular mention to Gregory Kelly and Conail Gardiner who were outstanding at the heart of the Downpatrick defence. It was good to see the hard work from training, mentoring from Seamus Heath and coaching from Barry and Stephen Holland starting to show in the player’s performance.
