Saturday 7th February – Lisburn Junior Invitational League under 14’s Cup
Downpatrick FC 7 v North End 0
After a 4 week break Downpatrick were raring to go and within the first minute they created their first chance of the match, when Kian Tierney found Eoin Rooney only for the North End keeper to make a good save. After 5 minutes of pressure Rooney drove down the left wing, cut inside and teed up strike partner Michael McStay up with a perfect pass to make it 1-0.
The North End defence were being torn apart by the intelligent runs of Declan Looney, McStay and Rooney. Tom Smyth won the ball in midfield and he passed out to Looney who hit an inch perfect pass to Rooney, who flicked the ball over the North End keeper to make it 2-0. A few minutes later Downpatrick won a corner which Corey McCoubrey delivered to the front post for Smyth to volley home 3-0.
Just before the break again Smyth found Looney down the left wing, he then crossed to the back post for McStay to give the keeper no chance with a great finish. In the final few minutes of the half North End had a rare attack but centre halves Caolain Logue & Brandon Boyd cleared the danger between them.

Downpatrick started the second as they finished the first, they pressed North End from the restart and got their reward when Kyle McKeever picked up the ball at left back. He drove at the North End defence, playing in Looney who the squared the ball to Smyth who fizzed a cross in for Rooney to tap in.
As North End pressed Boyd made a decisive interception as he came out with the ball he found Philip Doran down the right wing with a great pass, as Doran beat the left back he floated a perfect cross for Rooney to power a header home to complete his hat-trick. Downpatrick weren’t finished their as Boyd won a free just inside the North End half, he sent in a high ball which Tom Smyth knocked down for Declan Looney to volley home and make it 7-0. With all the goals that Downpatrick had scored their defence of McKeever, Logue, Boyd, Tom Fitzsimons and Shane Campbell stood strong to keep a clean sheet their second in as many matches.
