Saturday 31st November – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 15’s
Downpatrick FC v North End
Downpatrick pressed the ball from the kick off and immediately created a chance when Adam Jervis broke up play in the middle of the park, he then passed to Brandon Boyd who hit a rocket from 30 yards out into the bottom right hand corner to give his side the lead. Three minutes later top scorer Eoin Rooney picked the ball up in midfield turned his marker and hit a screamer from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance.
Jervis was on fire when he collected the ball on the left wing cut inside and hit a rocket from 35 yards to make it three nil. By now North End were shell shocked and it got worse, straight from the restart Decky Looney won the ball and lobbed an inch perfect pass to Rooney on the left side of the box, he then volleyed over the keeper. Boyd got his second of the game when he received the ball on the edge of the box before powering a shot into the back of the net. After a long period of possession Rory Trainor drove down the left wing and crossed for Niall Strange who volleyed home for his first goal for Downpatrick.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 6 v North End 0
Downpatrick went out in the second half with instructions to keep the ball on the ground, keep possession and not to be shooting from distance. With this in mind they played beautiful football and again created lots of chances. Kyle McKeever got the ball on the right wing drove to the byline and slid the ball back for Looney to pass the ball into the back of the net. Two minutes later Rooney did the same as McKeever and set up Looney to score in a carbon copy of the previous goal to make it eight.
Looney then turned provider when Tom Smyth drove out of defence played a one two with Looney, he dribbled past two men and rifled a shot into the bottom corner. Again Looney popped up with another assist when he beat his man and slipped the ball into the path of Thomas Fitzsimons who neatly finished into the bottom corner. Rooney was to have the last say as he went on a mesmerising dribble beating 3 men and the curling his shot into the top corner.
Although it sounds like it was one way traffic Downpatrick had to work hard for this, credit must also go to the defence and keeper who held their concentration throughout and kept their clean sheet intact
