Saturday 9th September – LYFL under 14’s
Downpatrick FC 5 v North End 4
Downpatrick were looking for their first victory of the season after last week’s disappointing result in their opening fixture. From the start Downpatrick put North End under pressure with some direct football as they created a couple of good chances but they nearly got caught on the break.
A long clearance to Lewis Green who was down the right wing, he cut inside the defender before going around the keeper and slotting the ball home. Downpatricks second goal was scored by Green again when he finishes following a good move. North End scored a goal from the centre when the Downpatrick defence take too much time to clear the ball and the North End striker fired into the net. Good play down the right from Calam Mulqueen and then he crosses over a good ball for John Mahoney to finish it off to make it 3 – 1.
Downpatrick scored their fourth minutes into second half from John Mahoney again. A change of system for Downpatrick created panic in their own ranks and North End scored 3 quick goals in a short period to bring the sides level. Downpatrick regained their composure and started to put North End under pressure and as the game approached the final stages Lewis Green turned into the match winner as he fired in from the edge of the box to complete his hat-trick and secure his sides victory.
