Kerr’s 5 Star Performance

Downpatrick ran out comprehensive winners against Kilkeel on Saturday and they had a five star performance from striker Patrick Kerr who bagged himself five goals for the game. Conditions deteriorated through the game but the players have to be commended on some of the football they played on Saturday.

The game was pretty even during the opening half hour as both teams cancelled each other out, however four goals in ten minutes before half time secured the points for Downpatrick. Midfielder Adrian McCoubrey opened the scoring with a fine individual effort, three minutes later Paddy Kerr got his first of the day and Downpatrick’s second.

Winger Conail Kerr got in on the act when he got onto the end of a Conail MacNabb cross at the back post. Downpatrick’s first half goal scoring blitz was completed by midfielder Stephen Rowden when he got his head to a Kerr flick on and score past the helpless Kilkeel keeper.

Within five minutes of the restart Paddy Kerr had completed his hat-trick with a quick fire brace after good work from left back Gary Trueman. On the hour mark Kerr was at it again, this time playing a one-two with strike partner Chrissie Curran before shooting from the edge of the box into the bottom corner to make 7 – 0.

Downpatrick were guilty of going to sleep and a rare attack from Kilkeel saw them score a consolation goal. Kerr brought his tally to five for the game when he got onto the end of a McCoubrey through ball before rounding the keeper and tapping into and empty net to make it 8 – 1 to Downpatrick.

Central midfielder Adrian McCoubrey doubled his tally for the day when he ran onto a ball from Conail Kerr after some good work from right back Chris Curran. The goal of the game was Downpatrick’s last goal and was scored by Gary Trueman, Trueman picked the ball up in his own half and he played a one-two with Conail Kerr before unleashing an unstoppable shot from 30 yards out into the top corner.
