Friday 15th December – SBYFL under 18’s
Downpatrick FC 2 v 22nd Old Boys 1
Downpatrick travelled to Old Boys with only 11 men due to illness and injuries.
The game started at a hectic pace, Liam McCarron was making a nuisance of himself in centre forward creating chances for Ryan McKinney and Taylor Broggy. After 20 minutes McCarron won the ball in the air and McKinney latched onto the ball and drove into box only to hauled down to win his side a penalty which he calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
Old Boys lifted their intensity after this and for 10 minutes it was backs to the wall for the young Downpatrick back line. Just before halftime the Old Boys midfielder hit a speculative shot which hit the crossbar and went in giving Conor Logue in the Downpatrick nets no chance to draw the sides level.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v 22ND Old Boys 1
At the start of the second half Joe Healy, Tony Carson and Corey McCoubrey were totally controlling the game from midfield and creating chances for McKinney and McCarron. Carson sent McKinney down the right were he cut inside the left back and lobbed the keeper to give his side the lead. With 25 minutes to go Downpatrick lost Adam Jervis to a recurrence of an ankle injury, this left Downpatrick with ten men but with some resolute defending from Ryan Cassidy, Andrew McCoubrey and Caolain Logue Downpatrick held on for the win.
