Friday 6th October – SBYFL under 18’s
Downpatrick FC 2 v St Mary’s 3
Downpatrick totally controlled the first twenty minutes of the match restricting St Mary’s to just two attacks, during the second attack Downpatrick conceded a soft penalty which was converted by their striker. Downpatrick hit back immediately with Adam Jervis heading in Declan Burns corner.
Again Downpatrick had the lion’s share of the possession but were very wasteful with the chances they created. Declan Burns gave his side the lead just before halftime when he finished off a move that included no less than ten passes from back to front.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 2 v St Mary’s 1
The second half started with Downpatrick in the same form creating chances but having no luck in front of goal. St Mary’s hit a quick counter attack and won a free kick on the edge of the Downpatrick box which they converted to level the match. Downpatrick continued to play their passing game but were unlucky to go down to ten men when Ryan Cassidy was sent off for a hand ball in the box which resulted in a penalty which was converted by the St Mary’s striker. For all the good football played this was a bitter defeat as Downpatrick were by far the better team but if you don’t score from the chances that you create you won’t win games.
