Lisburn League Cup Final – Under 13’s
Downpatrick FC 2 v Banbridge Town 1
Downpatrick Football Club under thirteen’s won the Lisburn Junior Invitational League 2 Cup with a 2-1 win over Banbridge Town in a hard fought battle on Saturday at Lisburn LeisurePlex. Downpatrick got off to the dream start scoring in the first minute from a Caleb Patterson cross which was knocked in by a Banbridge defender. An emboldened Downpatrick followed with a great fifteen minutes of play putting together some excellent football in the midfield. As the game wore on Banbridge grew in confidence and had several opportunities to equalise had it not been for the on form Ryan Carson who pulled off some dramatic saves in an excellent display of goal keeping.
Downpatrick started the second half with the wind at their backs in a very physical game of end to end football. Caolan Deegan settled Downpatrick nerves fifteen minutes into the second half, beating two defenders and sliding the ball past the goal keeper. Banbridge still felt there was hope for a comeback, as again and again they tested the Downpatrick defence, which remained solid until the last minute of play as Banbridge’s persistence was rewarded when a goal mouth scramble resulted in a score. The game finished 2-1. Downpatrick’s Ryan Carson was awarded the Daily Mirror Man of the Match.
