Saturday 13th September – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 14’s

Downpatrick FC 9 v’s Windmill FC 3

Hot on the heels of a superb first win in midweek Downpatrick came out of the traps very quickly and didn’t give Windmill a chance to get into the game. Within 10 minutes Downpatrick were three nil up with the goals coming from Declan Looney, Eoin Rooney and the lively Ruairi Quinn.

Downpatrick were playing some lovely football with first time passes and movement off the ball they didn’t let Windmill settle on the ball and controlled the play all over the park. By the time the half time whistle was blown the ‘Green’s found themselves six nil up, the other three goals coming from Kian Tierney and both Rooney and Looney added a second goal each.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 6 v’s Windmill FC 0

At half time managers Billy Logue and Mark Murphy brought on all subs, Adam Jervis, Ryan Cassidy, James Peacock and Philip Doran to give them some important game time. The substitutions allowed Windmill to gain some momentum in the play and two quick fire goals brought some respectability to the score line.

Midway through the half Downpatrick won a free kick 30 yards out from goal, and with everyone waiting for the ball to be pumped into the box, up stepped Ruairi Quinn to hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Brandon Boyd got on the score sheet finishing off after a neat passing move involving 6 players and eight or nine passes.

The final goal of the game was scored by Declan Looney to complete his first hat-trick of the season. Although not getting on the score sheet Downpatrick’s star performer was Corey McCoubrey who controlled the play in midfield and time and time again broke up the Windmill attacks.
