Downpatrick FC 4 v Dromara Village 0
Downpatrick picked up three valuable points at home on Saturday when they welcomed Dromara Village to Rossconner. Dromara were on a high after last weeks result against high flying Premier League Team Ards Rangers in the Clarence Cup, they started the game in confident fashion.
On ten minutes Dromara were awarded a penalty after left back Chris McDowell misjudged the flight of the ball and the referee decided he had handled the ball in the area. The Dromara striker saw his strike come off the inside of the post and roll along the goal line before being cleared to safety by Blaine Connolly. Two minutes later Dromara had another glorious chance, a misplaced pass out of the Downpatrick went straight to the Dromara striker who had the goal at his mercy only for Mark Holland to make a last ditch tackle and clear the ball.
Midway through the half Downpatrick opened the scoring, midfielder Andy Baggley played the ball over the top looking for Eoin Boyle but he was returning from an offside position. Realising that Boyle wasn’t making an attempt for the ball Baggley ran onto his own pass and delightfully chipped the Dromara keeper to score. Downpatrick thought they had doubled their advantage minutes later when Holland scored a bullet header from a Christian Holland corner only for the referee to see an infringement in the box and disallowed the goal.
On the half hour mark Downpatrick scored their second goal of the game, Chris McDowell passed the ball to winger Holland who sent over an inch perfect cross for striker Andrew Telford to head home. Downpatrick had numerous chances to score in the last fifteen minutes of the half but failed to convert any.
Half Time: Downpatrick FC 2 v Dromara Village 0
Twenty minutes into the second half Downpatrick secured all three points, good work down the right hand side between Man of the Match Terence Bell and Barry Treacy, allowed Treacy to send over a cross into the box. The Dromara keeper looked to collect the ball with ease but some how managed to drop the ball which fell into the path of striker Andrew Telford who had the simplest of tasks of tapping the ball into the net.
Substitute Barry Treacy got his name on the scoresheet with fifteen minutes remaining, Peter Telford who had earlier replaced Eoin Boyle made a surging run into the box and shot from a tight angle, the Dromara keeper parried the ball straight to the feet of Treacy who’s first time shot hit the back of the net. Dromara tried to rally in the final ten minutes but keeper Michael McKenna was on hand to thwart both opportunities with excellent saves.
