Under 14’s Fall To Hillsborough Boys In Cup Quarter-Final

On a blustery day, Downpatrick struggled to get to grips with the wind. Although they scored an early goal when Decky Looney converted from a corner with an excellent volley on the edge of the 18 yard box.

Downpatrick were then caught out a few minutes later when the back line didn’t deal with a high ball and the Hillsborough striker took advantage to knock the ball past the onrushing Shane Campbell.

Downpatrick then tried to press against a very physical Hillsborough side, Eoin Rooney broke free and was bearing down on the Hillsborough goal when he was chopped down on the edge of the box, from the resulting free Caolain Logue couldn’t hit the target. As Downpatrick tried to get into the game they were caught again by another high ball as Hillsborough made it 2 – 1 just before halftime.

After a few changes at halftime Downpatrick still couldn’t get into the game, even though Eoin Rooney was working tirelessly to make a breakthrough and was on the end of some very rough treatment from the opposing team.

Hillsborough then broke down the right hand side to make it 3 – 1. Kian Tierney hit a sublime free kick into the top corner to pull a goal back but on the day Downpatrick just weren’t at it and went out of the cup with a whimper.
