Saturday 3rd September – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 13’s
Downpatrick FC 4 v TW Braga 2
Downpatrick under 13’s first competitive game in the Lisburn League finished with the green coming away with all three points. Both teams tried to play some free flowing football which resulted in an open game.
Downpatrick opened the scoring in the first half through winger Lewis Green, he went on a mazy run down the wing before cutting inside and scoring past the TW Braga goal keeper at his near post. Five minutes later the same player scored his second of the game, a high ball was played into the box and was only partially cleared to Green who shot from the edge of the box into the net.
Neat play in midfield between Ruairi Cunliffe, John Mahoney and Nathan McAlister saw Cunliffe taking the ball down the right hand side of the pitch before playing a diagonal pass into Mahoney who rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the net from a tight angle to make it 3 – 0. Braga pulled a goal early in the second half when a cross come shot from the right wing evaded Downpatrick’s Eoin Dowd and went straight into the net.
Downpatrick scored their fourth of the game final minutes later, they worked a short corner before Lee Curtis got possession near the penalty spot and rifled his shot into the back of the net. Braga scored their second of the game in the dying minutes with a high shot which Dowd couldn’t reach. A pleasing performance for the management team of Stephen Sloan and Mark Murphy.
