Saturday 8th October – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 13’s
Downpatrick FC 2 v Lisburn Distillery 3
Downpatrick under 13’s fell to their first defeat of the season at the hands of Lisburn Distillery. A tight start to the match, both teams had chances before Downpatrick intercepted a ball from Distillery keeper and immediately hit them on the brake and scored the opening goal with a good left foot finish from James Mahoney. Five minutes into the second half Downpatrick doubled their advantage, another quick ball out wide to winger Lewis Green, he beat the defender and let go with an unstoppable shot which hit the roof of the net.
Downpatrick were full of confidence and put Distillery under some pressure with their keeper pulling off a couple of good saves. Downpatrick were caught to far up the field which allowed Lisburn to pull a goal back with a good finish by their striker. Midway through the half the Downpatrick players were caught ball watching and a great ball to back post caught the defenders out and gifted Lisburn an easy tap in to make it 2 – 2. With only minutes remaining a ball was crossed in from the right and as the Downpatrick defender tries to clear he unfortunately diverts the ball into his own net.
