Downpatrick FC 9 v’s Bloomfield 0
Downpatrick came out of the blocks slowly on Saturday and looked very nervy in the opening ten minutes. They should have been punished for the poor start when Bloomfield was awarded a penalty for handball. Downpatrick’s goal keeper Shane Campbell kept his composure and produced a fine double save to keep the game scoreless.
If the first ten minutes were poor from Downpatrick then the next hour of football was superb, gaining confidence from the penalty save they started to play some good football. Left Back Adam Jervis passed the ball down the left wing to release striker Eoin Rooney, Rooney used his speed to get away from his marker to open the scoring. From the re-start Downpatrick won the ball back through Kian Tierney, Tierney played a ball through for the prolific Rooney to double his tally for the day.
Downpatrick’s third was scored by Corey McCoubrey with a great side foot shot from the edge of the box after good link up play from midfielder Brandon Boyd and Rooney. With the game approaching half time Downpatrick won a corner, McCoubrey took the corner which found its way to Ruairi Quinn on the edge of the box, his shot come cross was met by Declan Looney at the back post who made no mistake with his shot.

Minutes into the second half Downpatrick scored their fifth of the day and Eoin Rooney completed his hat-trick, Boyd was again the provider with a perfect ball over the top for Rooney to latch onto and drill the ball into the back of the net. Downpatrick didn’t have to wait long for their sixth of the day, Quinn drove down the left wing before crossing the ball for Looney and he controlled the ball and superbly finished from 18 yards into the top corner.
Eoin Rooney scored his fourth goal of the day with 15 minutes remaining, some neat play in midfield between McCoubrey and Quinn allowed Rooney the space to get in behind the Bloomfield defence before he volleyed the ball home past the advancing Bloomfield keeper. A long ball out of defence was flicked on by Michael McStay to the on running Tom Smyth, McStay had the presence to turn and get into the box were Smyth selflessly squared the ball for McStay to tap in to make it 8 – 0.
Downpatrick’s ninth goal was scored by the impressive Smyth, Philip Doran beat the left back and crossed the ball for Smyth to score, this goal was reward for his pass to McStay just moments before. Next up for Downpatrick is Windmill.
