Saintfield AYC 1 v’s Downpatrick FC 2nds 1
Downpatrick seconds made the short journey to Kilmore playing fields to take on Saintfield AYC in the league and came away with a point in a game that they could and should have got all three points from but for some poor finishing and brilliant goal keeping.
The first half saw the visitors on top without being able to find away past the Saintfield goal keeper, Downpatrick were on top all over the park especially in midfield with Sean McMahon and Gerard Collins controlling the game. The defence of Gary Trueman, Stephen Rowden, Matthew Carson and Paul O’Reilly were rarely troubled and any balls that did get past them were comfortably dealt with by Robbie Hagan.
Half Time: Saintfield AYC 0 v’s Downpatrick FC 2nds 0
Ten minutes into the second half Downpatrick finally got their reward when Gerdie Collins was fouled in the box resulting in the referee to point to the penalty spot. Collins got up and dusted himself down before calmly sending the goal keeper the wrong way and slotting his shot into the bottom corner.
Downpatrick’s lead was short lived when four minutes later Saintfield drew level after a mix up in the Downpatrick defence allowed the Saintfield striker to put the ball past Hagan. Downpatrick had numerous chances after with Terence Bell and Christian Holland providing loads of crosses for strikers Conaill and Patrick Kerr but unfortunately they were unable to convert any of those chances.
The Downpatrick management will see this as two points lost rather than a point gained, next up for the seconds is a home game to Kilmore seconds on Saturday.
