Saturday 30th September – SBYFL under 18’s

Downpatrick FC 3 v Greenisland FC 3

After an evenly contested first 10 minutes Downpatrick were caught with a quick counter attack which was clinically finished by the Greenisland striker giving Conor Logue no chance in the Downpatrick goal. Within three minutes Downpatrick had levelled when Kian Tierney put Declan Burns through on goal and he slipped the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Just before halftime Greenisland took the lead again.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v Greenisland FC 2

With Joe Healy being moved into the striker position Downpatrick had a lot more of a threat up front, Healy won the ball then played the ball out to Corey McCoubrey who returned the favour with an inch perfect cross for Healy to turn in at the front post. Moments later Kian Tierney drove into the box skipping past two defenders and was about to shoot when he was tackled and won his side a penalty, which Burns drove into the bottom left corner of the net give his side the lead. In the last minute of the game Downpatrick conceded another goal due to sloppy play in defence. On the whole it was a good strong performance from this young Downpatrick side as they continued to play football on a tight pitch, but we’re also unlucky not to take home all three points.
