Saturday 19th October – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 15’s

Downpatrick FC 1 v Portadown Youth 3

Downpatrick’s unbeaten start came to an abrupt end on Saturday morning when they were defeated by an impressive Portadown Youth side. In a very even first half both sides played some nice football but couldn’t make the breakthrough.

Then after 30 minutes Portadown caught Downpatrick with a quick counter attack and before the Downpatrick defence could get back and defend the Portadown striker had slid the ball past Shane Campbell to put his side in front. Credit to Downpatrick as they tried to get back into the game and they pressed the Portadown defence well but got no rewards.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 0 v Portadown Youth 1

With Portadown controlling the midfield Downpatrick struggled to create any chances. Fifteen minutes to go Portadown doubled their lead with a well worked free kick catching Downpatrick out.

The introduction of Decky Looney gave Downpatrick a cutting edge and within minutes he got his side back into the game with an excellent volley from just inside the box to give the impressive Portadown keeper no chance. Moments later Downpatrick failed to deal with a long ball into the box and the Portadown striker was first to react and score his team’s third goal and seal all three points.
