Saturday 8th April – Lisburn Invitational Junior League under 16’s

Downpatrick FC 2 v Ballyclare 1

In the first twenty minutes the match was very scrappy with both sides struggling to get the ball down. The breakthrough came after Adam Jervis won the ball in midfield and slid in an inch perfect pass into Decky Looney who breezed past two Ballycalre defenders and hit a shot into the far corner of the net. Just before half time Ballyclare then levelled from a corner.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v Ballyclare 1

In the second Kian Tierney took control of the game as his mesmerising runs and passing was cutting the Ballyclare defence apart time and time again. Tierney picked the ball up on the left side of the box beat four men and lobbed the Ballyclare keeper to put his side back in front. Downpatrick were again wasteful in front of goal and should’ve put the game to bed but in the dying minutes of the game Ballyclare scored an equaliser when the Downpatrick defence were guilty of dwelling on the ball.
