Year 9 winners of Downpatrick FC schools tournament, see club notes for more information and pics

  • All roads lead to Seaview tonight for the Semi-Final of the Border Cup, Downpatrick play Crumlin Star, kick off is 7.30pm.
  • Last week the club held another one of their school tournaments between the Year 9’s of the De La Salle High School and St Patrick’s Grammar School. Both schools fielded two teams each in a highly competitive tournament played in blustery conditions. St Patrick’s A Team ran out winners in an enjoyable final. Special thanks to Youth Development Officer Paul Moore and first team player Eoin Boyle for refereeing the tournament.

  • This Saturday sees the first team back in league action when they welcome Dunmurray Rec to Rosconnor, kick off is 2.00pm.
  • The seconds are hoping to get back winning ways this Saturday when they make the short journey to Drumaness to take on the mills seconds, kick off is also 2.00pm.
  • The under 16’s ran out convincing winners against a poor Newry City AFC last Saturday by a score line of 14 – 0. Although you can only play what’s in front of you, the boys played some entertaining football and scored some magnificent goals. Star of the show was Rory Anderson who scored four goals, Callum Shields and James McAleenan both bagged themselves a hat-trick each, Fintan Canavan, Daniel Kelly, Andrew McCoubrey and Caolan Bentham scoring one each. This performance was very impressive considering Downpatrick finished the game with nine players due to injuries. This week they play North Belfast in the league.
  • After Saturday’s poor performance the under 14’s will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they play Lurgan Town this Saturday in Moira, kick off is 11.15am.
  • After their great win last Sunday the under 13’s have two games this weekend, on Saturday morning they play Celtic Bhoys at 9.30am, then they play Castlewellan on Sunday morning at 10.30am, both games are in Dunleath.
  • Having not played in a few weeks the under 11’s will be hoping to game some football this Saturday when they play Celtic Bhoys and Coney Island in the 9-a-side development league. The first game kicks off at 9.55am in Dunleath.
  • The Mini Soccer section continues to grow and develop, at present we have close to 50 children playing on a Sunday morning at under 8 and 10 level over two hours at the Downpatrick Youth League
