Saturday 3rd December – IFA Harry Cavan Youth Cup Second Round

Downpatric under 18’s went into this second round cup game with some mixed results of late and were determined to progress to the quarter-finals. After a hectic start Downpatrick settled down and began to get a foothold on the game with Ryan McKinney and Nathan McShane a constant threat.
Disaster struck for Downpatrick after twenty minutes when they conceded from a rare Ardstraw attack. Within minutes Nathan McShane got on the end of a flick from Corey McCoubrey and hit a rocket of a volley into the top right corner form around 30 yards to bring his side level. The game settled after that and although Downpatrick missed a lot of chances they kept trying to play their passing game.

Downpatrick won a corner fifteen minutes into the second half and Joe Healy broke from his marker to volley into the bottom corner. But late on in the game Downpatrick got sloppy with their passing and were conceding too much possession, which Ardstraw capitalised on to score two quick goals and put Downpatrick out of the cup.
