Under 13’s 3 v Hillsborough Boys 2

Downpatrick under 13’s made it three wins in a row in the Lisburn League but could easily have ended this match with only a point. In the first half Downpatrick raced into a three nil lead and looked commanding but in the second half Hillsborough put them under some severe pressure.

Downpatrick opened the scoring early in the 1st half, a good break down the left wing from Lewis Green, his perfect cross into the box was swept home by Ruairi Cunliffe. Finn Trainor scored Downpatrick’s second goal of the game when he went on a solo run past three Hillsborough players, a quick drop of the shoulder past the last defender saw him run clean through on the goal keeper and finished his shot superbly.

Green scored Downpatrick’s third goal before half time with a well executed shot from outside the box giving the Hillsborough keeper no chance. After half time Hillsborough came out determined to not let Downpatrick run away with game and they pulled two goals back. Downpatrick held out for the win, every player played their part but the standout players were Lewis Green, Nathan McAlister, Finn Trainor and Karl Kearney.
