Sunday 7th December – Downpatrick Youth League under 13’s

Downpatrick FC 3 v Kilmore Rec. 1

On a cold and windy morning Downpatrick under 13’s came out as winners in a keenly contested match against Kilmore Rec in Dunleath. Kilmore had the better of the opening exchanges but it would be Downpatrick who scored first.

Tom Savage kept possession well on the edge of the 18 yard box before laying the ball off for midfielder Ethan Breen to hit a shot which the Kilmore keeper was only able to parry into the path of winger Ciaran Glennon who made no mistake with a simple tap in to the back of the net. Downpatrick goalkeeper Dylan Connolly kept his side in front minutes later when he made a great save from the Kilmore Rec striker.

With five minutes remaining before half time Kilmore drew level, they won a corner which was crossed in deep into the box and unfortunately a Downpatrick player scored past his own keeper to make it one all.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 1 v Kilmore Rec 1

Downpatrick came out in the second half with the bit between their teeth and it wasn’t long before they got their noses in front. Again Tom Savage was the creator after beating his marker he laid the ball off for Glennon who rounded the keeper and from a tight angle squeezed the ball into the net. Downpatrick again had keeper Connolly to thank after he made a wonder save from the Kilmore striker.

All three points were secured with minutes remaining after Downpatrick won a corner which was taken by Jack Fitzsimons. The ball found its way to Gregory Kelly who made no mistake from 8 yards with a right footed shot to the bottom corner. Downpatrick had star performers all over the pitch but pick of the bunch were Dylan Connolly, Ciaran Glennon, Tom Savage and Odhran Magee.
